Reblogged from Eeeek! Nail Polish!:
When I started this little blog last September I had no idea that anyone would read it apart from me (and my Mum lol) so the fact that I’ve reached 100+ followers is quite simply, amazing! I appreciate every single one of you taking the time to follow, read, comment and like my posts - it means so much :-) So as a thank you, I am holding a little giveaway!
I'll try not to get all mushy lol
When I started the blog I had no idea of the direction it would take. To begin with, I just hoped that someone would read it and enjoy it lol but so much more than that has happened. As time has passed, I've learned from you and gotten to know you, through your comments, your likes, your nail art, your blogs and that means a great deal to me.
Hello again
This is going to be quite a brief post, but one that I think is worthwhile. I don’t usually post on non-nail related subjects, but for the last few days, I have been getting a sore neck. Last night, it got so bad I couldn’t sleep, and today my right shoulder is so sore, despite having slept flat on my back (we have a nice medium-softness latex mattress, just right) with no pillow.
Like any self-respecting young adult nowadays, I did some internet research to find out what’s going on ! It’s definitely muscular, my shoulder is very sore, I can’t hold anything heavier than about half a kilo (about a pound) in my right hand, it’s too sore. I can’t stand to pick anything up from the floor and if I breathe in too deeply it hurts ! Turns out, and that’s why I’m adding this to the blogaroo – it’s my handbag !
I read a few articles, apparently most of us are lugging around 3-4 kilos (6-9 lbs) in our bags every day. Now, I only have a medium-sized bag, and I wear the strap across my body, with the bag hanging on my left and the strap on my right shoulder. So that’s not particularly risky. Out of curiousity, I weighed my bag – it’s 3kg (6 lbs) !!
What’s in it? Nothing special – but I’m surely not the only one that grabs a lot of ‘just in case’ items for my bag…
You might be able to guess some of these, but I was pretty surprised when I weighed everything up !
Don’t ask how I ended up with 4 1/2 packs of tissues in my bag. I always think I’ve run out, so I grab one when I’m half way out the door. And who would have thought that receipts could weigh so much? Or an umbrella?! Now, I’m going to have to wait for the BoyFriend to get home to pick all that up off the floor for me ! Oops!
The good news is, it’s unlikely I’ve done myself any permanent damage with carting that lot around. But one thing’s sure – not all of it is going back in my bag again.
So, be careful ladies, apparently there is a rib bone just under your shoulder blade, and carrying a heavy bag on a regular basis can compact them together, trapping nerves and all sorts of nasty stuff. Maybe make the most of a sunday afternoon to have a clear out? If you do, do take some photos to share with us !
Hi fellow nail polish lovers!!
I’m so happy to share a guest post on Brijit’s blog. I’m Marisa and I’m the writer of Polish Obsession. I love sharing swatches of the many polishes that I have and I also dabble in a bit of nail art. One of my favorite forms of nail art is polka dots, so that’s what I’ll be sharing with you all today.

For my base, I used Sally Hansen So Much Fawn, a dusty rose creme that’s a one coater. It’s a really simple, but pretty polish. I then added polka dots with my dotting tool using Aldo Chocolate Factory, NYC Fashion Avenue Fuschia, and Zoya Jana. I then added Beauty Secrets Top Coat.

What I love about polka dots is that you can create so many fun designs with them. I really like how this one turned out. Hope you guys do too ;0).
Have you ever done a dotticure?
I’m actually pretty ashamed that it has taken me so long to accept this ! I’m really really grateful, and wish I could have done it sooner, but I would rather take my time and think about this post, than rush it. So please, do excuse me!
My Adventures in Nail Art nominated me back in March – again, a big thank you, I’m really flattered !
Here are the rules:
The recipient must post 11 fun facts about themselves
The recipient must also answer 11 questions created by the award giver
The recipient must give the award to 11 new bloggers with less than 200 followers and post 11 questions for them to answer
These 11 bloggers must be told they have been given the award
They will in turn pass the award on to 11 new bloggers of their choice (no tagging back the award giver)
So first of all, here are my ‘fun facts’ – I try to think of new ones each time, please excuse me if I do repeat myself !
Here are the questions I get to answer
1. What nail polish makes you feel happiest?
Right now, Magnifique by Darling Diva. It’s the only polish any brand has ever offered to send me free, and is also totally exclusive to Darling Diva in France. Plus, I totally love it !
2. What products do you use to take care of you nails and hands?
Every night, I moisturise my hands with Neutrogena intense care. I try to remember to do that during the day, too, but usually forget. Otherwise, not much, but I do like Nourish Me by Essie for my base coat. That said, right now I am trying Nail Envy – that’s pretty good too, though it is twice the price.
3. What would you prefer to spend your money on: one high quality brand nail polish or several cheap polishes?
When I first started blogging, I used silk wraps on my nails, so any polish I put on wasn’t directly on my nail bed. So I didn’t mind using cheap polish with nasties in it ! But now, I paint my nails directly, so I love brands that are 3- or 4-free, and would rather buy a high quality brand. Luckily, there are loads out there !
4. Do you ever do nail art or manicures on your friends’ nails, or only ever on your own?
A bit of both. Mostly my own, because I live far out from most of my friends, so it’s complicated to organise.
5. Are there any techniques you really want to try but haven’t done yet?
I’ve bought some feathers to try, I’m squeamish about birds, so I might only be able to touch them with tweezers, but they are so pretty!
6. How do you photograph your manicures?
I use a Sony DSC-S3000. It’s kinda mid-range, we bought it for holiday photos. But it does work pretty well, and I’m lucky enough to have great lighting at home, so no light box. My photos have improved loads since I started using a tripod though, I do recommend that ! I’m kinda hit-and-miss and will take about 5 photos for every one published…
7. What has been your greatest nail achievement so far?
I’m really proud of my Grey Wolf Mani – it got great feedback
8. How often do you change your manicure?
I work in tourism, so in down season, almost every day. When peak season comes around, maybe only once a week !
9. Do you paint your toenails too?
Yes, but I don’t post pictures of them. I hate feet. Sorry !
10. What nail art tool is your favourite to use?
Right now, I’m using more and more acrylic paint. I tried to get a slot with tartofraises, who is like, the best at one stroke, but she’s busy, and didn’t sound too interested (I got a “please contact me another time”-type email). So I’ll work it out myself !
11. What would you wear on your nails if you were having a winter wedding in the snow? (serious question – I need inspiration!)
It totally depends on your colour scheme, but I’d go with some kind of holo polish – all the light reflecting off the snow will make that look awesome, maybe with some one-stroke flowers over the top
My nominees – some are new, some are not so new, I totally recommend them all
