Here’s a couple of things you might not have known about France.
First of all, shops can’t just put on sales when they want out here. You have to have a permit, which I believe is submitted to the local council. So, apart from the big seasonal sales periods (January and July), we don’t get many sales out here. That’s why I order a lot of my polish from the UK (and there’s often more choice). So this year, the big sales period kicked off a week ago, and I decided to treat myself to my first designer polish. I cut my nails down a little this weekend, so to cheer myself up, I decided to go for some luxury !
I went for Rouge Interdit (118) by Givenchy, a beautiful, deep red that never goes out of fashion :
This range is called Vernis Please!, which brings me to my second thing-you-might-not-know about France.
You know how in the UK (and the US, I think), perfume adverts and such have French accents and the odd French word in them, because we anglophones find them ‘chic’? Well, in France it’s the other way round ! Perfume adverts are full of UK/US actors speaking French with the most atrocious accents. So although vernis is French for polish or varnish, the fact that Givenchy added ‘please’ is supposed to be cool and sexy… Wierd, right !?
I pretty much speak French without an accent nowadays, but to start with, people I met out here found it sooo cute !
